Crete Celebrates Its Heritage: Ano Viannos Hosts the 3rd Olive & Olive Oil Festival

Ano Viannos will host the 3rd Olive & Olive Oil Festival on 14–15 August 2026, an event that highlights Crete’s deep cultural heritage while inviting visitors to experience one of the island’s most authentic rural celebrations. Organized by the Cultural Association of Ano Viannos, with the support of the Municipality of Viannos, the festival brings together tradition, gastronomy and local craftsmanship in a setting that reflects the essence of the Cretan countryside.

The olive tree has shaped Crete’s landscape, economy and identity for centuries. Its presence defines rural life, while Cretan olive oil is internationally recognized for its quality and its central role in the Mediterranean diet. The festival showcases this cultural continuity through local products, culinary presentations, music and activities that offer visitors a genuine connection to the island’s agricultural roots.

This year’s keynote speaker is Christos Stratakis, agronomist and IT specialist, who will provide insights into modern olive cultivation and its future prospects. The event will be presented by Evi Papadaki.

With its official opening on Friday, 14 August at 9:30 p.m., the festival invites both locals and international visitors to explore the traditions, flavors and stories that make Crete a unique cultural and gastronomic destination.
