Crete Tourism Turns to Clean Energy

The Heraklion Chamber of Commerce invites tourism enterprises across the Heraklion Regional Unit to participate in a new initiative that connects the hospitality sector with clean energy, energy efficiency and emerging collaborative models in the energy domain. The initiative is part of the project “ClusTECH – Creation of Energy Community Clusters in Greece and Cyprus”, implemented under the INTERREG VIA Greece–Cyprus 2021–2027 Cooperation Programme and cofunded by the European Union and national resources.

ClusTECH aims to develop a crossborder cooperation network focused on Energy Communities, strengthening awareness, training and knowledge exchange among stakeholders, while promoting the adoption of clean energy and sustainable energy solutions in Greece and Cyprus.

Energy Communities represent a modern, collaborative model through which citizens, businesses, local authorities and organizations can actively participate in producing and utilizing energy from Renewable Energy Sources (RES). Through collective actions—such as RES electricity generation, selfproduction and energysaving initiatives—new opportunities emerge for reducing energy costs, enhancing energy autonomy and supporting environmental protection.

For tourism enterprises in Heraklion, participation in ClusTECH offers access to practical knowledge, best practices and emerging opportunities in the cleanenergy sector. Businesses will be able to explore how Energy Communities can support sustainable operations, reduce longterm energy expenditure and strengthen their environmental footprint—an increasingly critical factor for international tourism competitiveness.

The Heraklion Chamber of Commerce, as a project partner, is implementing a comprehensive programme of information, training and knowledge dissemination. Activities include specialized training seminars for Energy Community members, public workshops on establishing Energy Communities, and sessions highlighting best practices, challenges and local opportunities.
