The beach of Rethymno Mare in Skaleta, Crete, has once again been awarded the prestigious Blue Flag, reaffirming the hotel’s long-standing commitment to environmental quality, safety and sustainable coastal management. The Blue Flag is an internationally recognised eco‑label granted to beaches and marinas that meet strict criteria for water quality, environmental protection, accessibility and visitor services.

Rethymno Mare & Water Park, a five-star resort founded in 1988 by entrepreneur Manolis Tsakalakis, has played a key role in the development of the wider Rethymno region as a high‑quality tourism destination. During his tenure as President of the Rethymno Hoteliers Association, Mr. Tsakalakis contributed significantly to shaping a forward‑looking development strategy for the area, strengthening its position on the tourism map of Crete.

In his statement regarding this year’s award, Mr. Tsakalakis noted:

“We are honoured once again to raise the Blue Flag on the beach of Rethymno Mare in Skaleta. I would like to thank our hotel staff for their continuous efforts towards our shared goal of maintaining the environment in excellent condition. In the near future, travellers will choose their holiday destinations not only based on financial criteria, but also on environmental ones.”

The renewed Blue Flag distinction reinforces Rethymno Mare’s reputation as a resort that combines luxury hospitality with environmental responsibility, contributing to the overall upgrade of the tourism offering in the region of Rethymno.
