Evanthia Reboutsika at Toplou Monastery: A Hymn to the Woman
[57s read]
As part of the Parallel Action “Women – Cultural Heritage – Creation” of the Region of Crete Festival 2026, internationally acclaimed composer and violinist Evanthia Reboutsika presents the performance “Hymn to the Woman” on Wednesday, 16 September, at the historic Toplou Monastery in Sitia — a landmark where contemporary artistic expression meets centuries of cultural heritage.
With her signature red violin, Reboutsika unfolds a musical journey through her creative career, performing beloved compositions from her discography and themes from awardwinning films such as A Touch of Spice, Notias and 1968. Her melodies, inspired by the Aegean, Asia Minor and Constantinople, evoke stories of memory, nostalgia, separation and return, while celebrating the joy of life and the emotional depth of human experience. Featuring Sofia Zova, the performance becomes a refined tribute to women — to creativity, resilience, memory and their timeless presence in culture and the arts.
Presenting the concert within the emblematic setting of Toplou Monastery creates a unique dialogue between contemporary music and the historical identity of Eastern Crete. The space itself becomes part of the narrative, enhancing the connection between art, heritage and the cultural imprint of the region.
The Parallel Action “Women” is held under the auspices of the Hellenic National Commission for UNESCO, the Ministry of Culture, and the General Secretariat for Equality and Human Rights, reinforcing the institutional character and significance of the initiative.
