MAICh Positions Crete as a Mediterranean Education Hub

The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh) has reinforced Crete’s position as a regional hub for education, skills development and international cooperation, successfully completing ten new ERASMUS+ projects between June and August 2026. The Institute’s consistent performance, highquality training and strong satisfaction rates among participants highlight its growing role as a driver of added value for the island’s economy and global visibility.

The Mediterranean Agronomic Institute of Chania (MAICh) concluded ten ERASMUS+ projects from 10 June to 20 August 2026, continuing a sixyear trajectory of exemplary program management and international educational engagement. The Institute has earned a reputation for operational efficiency, academic excellence and participant satisfaction, positioning Crete as a competitive destination for European training mobility.

This year’s projects focused on the professional development of 140 Italian educators, who received advanced training in modern teaching methodologies across tourism, industry and social inclusion. The sessions were delivered by MAICh’s experienced faculty, offering participants exposure to highlevel academic content combined with practical, realworld applications. The exchange of best practices between Greek and Italian institutions further strengthened bilateral cooperation and contributed to the modernization of educational approaches in both countries.

In parallel, 80 Italian vocational students completed handson training in hospitality and food service enterprises across Crete. Their placements provided direct experience in real working environments, enabling them to acquire professional qualifications, enhance technical skills and familiarize themselves with the Cretan model of hospitality. The program enriched their learning journey and underscored Crete’s reputation as a destination where education, tourism and professional development intersect.

Beyond formal training, participants engaged in cultural and environmental activities, visiting archaeological sites, areas of natural beauty and local production facilities. Their immersion in Cretan Gastronomy and agricultural products added a cultural dimension to their educational experience, with many expressing strong appreciation for the quality of training and the overall hospitality they received.

MAICh’s collaboration with ten Italian educational institutions — including Istituto Tecnico Agrario Superiore “Augusto Ciuffelli”, IISS “Galileo Ferraris”, I.P.S.S.E.O.A. Massimo Alberini, IIS Tecnico economico e Professionale “A.Casagrande – F.Cesi”, Liceo Statale San Benedetto di Conversano, Liceo Artistico Bernardino Di Betto, IPSEOASC Alberghiero “Giancarlo De Carolis”, IPSEOA Carlo Porta Milano, Istituto Professionale Alberghiero “L. Coscioni” and the Umbria Training Centre — strengthened academic ties and reinforced the longstanding friendship between Greece and Italy. The projects also contributed to the exchange of educational practices and the creation of a stable network of European mobility.
