Managing Greek Agricultural Rights from Abroad

[1m 14s read]

For many members of the Greek diaspora, agricultural land in Greece is more than an asset. It is heritage, continuity, and a tangible link to family roots. As the Greek state modernizes its agricultural support framework, staying informed becomes essential—especially for those who live abroad but maintain ownership of farmland, olive groves, vineyards or rural plots.

The Independent Authority for Public Revenue (AADE) has now activated the digital system for submitting transfers of Basic Income Support Rights for Sustainability for the 2026 support year. This development is particularly important for Greeks living abroad who have inherited agricultural parcels or manage land remotely, as these rights determine eligibility for annual EUfunded agricultural support payments.

Through the new digital platform (dikaiomata.aade.gr), landowners can transfer their rights—fully or partially—to an eligible active farmer. Transfers may involve land, be executed without land, or take place due to inheritance. For diaspora Greeks who have inherited agricultural property, the system provides a clear and legally secure pathway to register and manage these rights, ensuring that the land remains properly declared and compliant with EU regulations.

The submission is carried out exclusively online using TAXISnet credentials, meaning that diaspora landowners must ensure they have active access to their Greek tax profile. The recipient of the transfer must accept the submission digitally, completing the process. Nine categories of transfers are supported, covering all practical scenarios, from permanent transfers to lease agreements and inheritancerelated procedures.

A key restriction applies: rights allocated from regional reserves during 2023–2025 cannot be transferred, except in cases of inheritance or force majeure. This safeguard protects the integrity of the support system and ensures that rights remain tied to genuine agricultural activity.

The digital platform will remain open until 15 September 2026 at 23:59, giving diaspora landowners a clear timeframe to complete any necessary actions. For clarifications, AADE provides full support through the my1521 service, both by phone and online, offering guidance to those who may be managing their Greek property from abroad.
