[32s read]

In the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Konstantinos An. Tasoulas, and the Minister of National Economy and Finance, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Ioannis Stournaras was sworn in on Wednesday, 24 June 2026, as Governor of the Bank of Greece. The ceremony was officiated by Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece, underscoring the continuity and institutional stability of the country’s central monetary authority.

Following the ceremony, Mr. Stournaras formally resumed his duties at a time when the stability of the banking system, the management of inflationary pressures and the strengthening of the real economy remain central to public debate. His renewed mandate carries particular weight amid an international environment marked by uncertainty, where the credibility of monetary policy and the effective supervision of the financial sector are critical to Greece’s economic trajectory.
