Transport Investment Summit 2026: Thessaloniki at the Center of Southeast Europe’s Transport Infrastructure Agenda

On Thursday, 18 June 2026, Thessaloniki will host one of the most significant international meetings on transport infrastructure in Southeast Europe. The Transport Investment Summit, held under the auspices of the Hellenic Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, is organized by the Transport Community, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB). The event will bring together institutional stakeholders, investors, financial organizations and leading companies from across the transport and construction sectors.

The Transport Community of the Western Balkans serves as the EU’s institutional mechanism for aligning the region’s partners with the European Union and its Member States on connectivity policies. Its operational focus includes the Western Balkans – Eastern Mediterranean Corridor (WBEM), a key component of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN‑T). The selection of Thessaloniki as the host city underscores its growing role as a strategic hub for transport, trade and investment in the wider region.

The Summit has a dual objective. First, it aims to mobilize Greek and European investment and construction companies, attract capital through international financial institutions and enhance the overall attractiveness of transport infrastructure projects. Second, it seeks to provide timely and reliable information to the investment community regarding the projects planned along the WBEM corridor, highlighting the needs of the private sector and shaping, through structured dialogue, the conditions that make these projects mature and appealing for private investment.

This meeting takes on particular significance at a time when Europe is redefining its strategic priorities in transport, with a strong emphasis on connectivity, infrastructure resilience and the green transition. The Western Balkans and Eastern Mediterranean region lie at the heart of this effort, serving as a critical gateway for freight flows, energy routes and cross‑border cooperation.

The Transport Investment Summit 2026 is expected to act as a catalyst for new partnerships, investment initiatives and high‑level technical dialogue. With the participation of institutional bodies, banks, infrastructure companies and international organizations, Thessaloniki will become, for one day, the point where European transport policy, regional development and the investment opportunities of the coming decade converge.

At a time when transport infrastructure shapes competitiveness and the geoeconomic strength of regions, Greece has the opportunity to reinforce its position as a pillar of connectivity and an attractive investment destination. The Thessaloniki Summit represents a decisive step in that direction, aligning the country with major European strategies and opening the way for projects capable of transforming the transport landscape of Southeast Europe.
