HMU Rises Among Greece’s Leading Regional Universities

The 2026–2027 national university entrance results confirm the steady rise of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU), which continues to establish itself as one of Greece’s most dynamic and fast advancing regional public universities. With an overall fill rate of 88%, HMU ranks fourth among regional institutions nationwide, reflecting its growing appeal and sustained academic momentum.
A particularly strong indicator of institutional attractiveness is the fact that 65% of admitted students placed HMU within their top three choices, positioning the University third among regional institutions in conscious candidate preference. HMU also ranks third in first choice declarations, underscoring the degree to which prospective students actively select the University rather than simply accept placement.
The newly established School of Engineering, founded in April 2025, demonstrates exceptional performance. The Department of Mechanical Engineering recorded the highest increase in entry scores across the University, rising by 1,890 points (+15.10%) to 14,405. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering followed with an increase of 1,570 points (+13.63%), reaching 13,090, while the Department of Electronic Engineering in Chania posted an 894 point rise (+8.88%). Strong demand for engineering disciplines, combined with the full professional rights now secured for graduates, significantly enhances the School’s visibility and competitiveness.
Commenting on the results, HMU Rector Professor Nikos Katsarakis emphasized that the University’s high fill rate and strong preference indicators reflect the trust of students and families, acknowledging the collective effort of the academic community to continuously upgrade education, research and student services. He noted that the positive performance of the School of Engineering reinforces HMU’s strategic direction and its commitment to quality, internationalization and meaningful engagement with society and the labor market.
