A Night of Music and Memory: Iliachtida Brings Crete Together

[2m read]

A deeply moving evening unfolded on Monday, 24 August 2026, at the Hellenic Mediterranean University, during the Love Concert “Whether you come or not… I will embrace you.” The event highlighted the social impact and humanitarian mission of the Pancretan Association of Parents & Friends of Children with Neoplasia “Iliachtida”, an organization that continues to stand beside children battling cancer and the families who support them.

Organized by “Iliachtida” in collaboration with Ms. Mary Tzoulaki, mother of Antonis Mavrogiannakis, the concert was dedicated to children who left life too early. Children who may no longer be physically present, yet remain forever alive in the hearts and memories of those who loved them. Families who have experienced similar losses—whether through illness or tragic circumstances—attended the event, forming a quiet but powerful circle of solidarity, empathy and shared resilience.

One of the most symbolic moments of the evening came when white balloons were released into the sky, honoring every child who passed away prematurely. Candles were lit as small lights of remembrance, creating a collective tribute that transcended words.

The Social Impact of “Iliachtida”: Turning Compassion into Action

“Iliachtida” continues to provide essential support to children with neoplastic diseases and their families—emotional, psychological, practical and financial. The concert was not simply a cultural event; it was a direct contribution to the organization’s mission.

All proceeds will strengthen “Iliachtida’s” ongoing work, ensuring that families facing the most difficult moments receive the care, guidance and solidarity they need. The Association’s role remains critical in addressing needs that often remain unseen, offering stability and hope where uncertainty prevails.

The Contribution of the Mavrogiannakis Family

The event would not have been possible without the heartfelt involvement of the family of Antonis Mavrogiannakis. His brother, Konstantinos, together with friends, supported every stage of the preparation, while his father, Matthaios Mavrogiannakis, oversaw every detail, becoming a key contributor to the realization of the concert.

Their participation transformed the evening into a tribute of love—one family’s grief becoming strength for many others.

Artists, Sponsors and Supporters: A Community United in Purpose

The concert was embraced by distinguished artists who offered their talent with generosity: Vasilis Skoulas, Voula Strataki, Manos Papadakis, Thanasis Mavrokostas and his Music & Dance Ensemble. Their presence elevated the evening into a cultural celebration with profound emotional depth.

Equally important was the support of the event’s sponsors: SYFAK, MESOGEIOS Group, FAMILY FM, AUTO VENERI, Plastika Kritis, as well as numerous supporters who contributed decisively to the organization and execution of the event.

Journalist Antigoni Andreaki offered valuable communication support, while the concert was coorganized with the Regional Development Fund.

Volunteers and Audience: The Heart of the Event

The volunteers of “Iliachtida” formed the backbone of the evening, offering time, dedication and compassion. The audience responded with remarkable warmth, filling the venue and transforming the concert into a collective embrace.

More Than a Concert

On 24 August, the participants did not simply create a musical event. They created a space of remembrance, unity and hope. A community that stood together for the children who left too soon, for the families who continue to carry their memory, and for the children who are still fighting.

Some children may have left life early — but they never left our hearts.
